“Whenever you should doubt your self-worth, remember the lotus flower. Even though it plunges to life from beneath the mud, it does not allow the dirt that surrounds it to affect its growth or beauty.”
I think for most of us, it’s easy to forget how amazing we are. There’s so much in the media telling us that unless we have this kind of body or this amount in our bank accounts, we don’t really stack up. Media surrounds us everywhere too. It’s almost unavoidable if we choose to participate in modern day activities. So media does have a loud voice, but more often it’s the smallest softest voice that carries the most wisdom.
Inner guidance and accessing wisdom is something they don’t teach in school. How can we be expected to know this stuff? Perhaps if we’ve been lucky enough in our interactions to stumble into a yoga class, pick up a spiritual book, or meet just the right person at just the right time in our lives to convey this wisdom, it may continue to elude us.
This wisdom is our intuition, our divine source, our soul center. It is always there, but with the 52,000 or more thoughts we have per day, we can understand how sometimes it’s almost impossible to make contact and hear it. But it is possible and once we start making regular contact with it, it starts to become a little louder, a little clearer.
So take some time today. Find a clear, quiet spot in your home or at work, and for 10-15 minutes, spend some time with yourself.
A favorite method of mine is to count the breath. Inhale count silently “one” as you exhale count silently “two.” Go all the way to “10” and then start over. This will help the ever thinking mind to focus and then you can slip into that peaceful place underneath.
You’ll start to remember how perfect you and your life are. Things won’t seem so urgent or serious, and perhaps for a bit, you can bridge that gap between you and limitless conscious wisdom.
